Denzel Curry is an American rapper, songwriter, and former Raider Klan member. He’s known for the albums Nostalgic 64 (2013) and Imperial (2016). Denzel Rae Don Curry was born on February 16, 1995, in Carol City, Florida. His older brother, Treon Johnson, was killed by police in 2014. Curry attended the Design And Architecture High School in Miami for two years. He continued his education at Miami Carol City Senior High School. He grew up in the same neighborhood as Trayvon Martin who was shot and killed in 2012.

CAREER
Prior to rapping, Curry experimented with poetry. By the 6th grade, he started gravitating more towards rap. He grew up listening to acts like OutKast, Goodie Mob, Master P, Jay Z, Nas and Hot Boys. His music influences also include 2Pac and Buju Banton. Curry’s debut mixtape, King Remembered, was released in 2011. The following year he released King of the Mischievous South, Strictly for My R.V.I.D.X.R.Z, and Mental Vendetta. Curry was a member of SpaceGhostPurrp‘s hip-hop collective, Raider Klan. They released two mixtapes, Greatest Hits Vol.1 and Vol. 2, between 2012-2013. He has since left the group.

Curry’s debut studio album, Nostalgic 64, was released in September 2013 by C9 and L&E. It featured guest appearance from artists like Yung Simmie, Robb Banks, Lil Ugly Mane and Travis Miller. Tracks from the album include “Threatz”, “N64” and “Dark & Violent”. The project was dubbed one of the top 10 albums of 2013 by Pitchfork Magazine. Curry’s debut EP, 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms, was released as a digital download in June 2015. It was led by the singles “Ultimate” and “Ice Age”. His second studio album, Imperial, was released in March 2016. It featured Rick Ross on the track “Knotty Head”, and Joey Badass on the song “Zenith”.

Curry was named to the 2016 XXL Freshman Class. The other 9 Freshmen include Desiigner, Anderson Paak, Dave East and Lil Dicky. In 2016, Curry was featured on “Chill Bill (Remix)” alongside Rob Stone, D.R.A.M. and Cousin Stizz. His second EP titled ’13’ was released in June 2017 by label Loma Recordings.
