The Maui Humane Society has reopened its shelter doors to adoptions seven days a week, with appointments no longer required to view and adopt animals.
Daily operating hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to the increased number of animals currently housed at the shelter, humane society officials are hoping that the extended hours and elimination of the appointment requirement will encourage more adoptions.
“It’s been a year and eight months since the pandemic resulted in us closing the doors for general animal viewing without needing to preschedule an appointment,” CEO Steve MacKinnon said in a news release Monday. “Reopening the doors for adopters to drop in at their convenience, including Sundays, will be mutually beneficial.”
Maui Humane Society will continue to require appointments for all other services except adoptions. The organization is still looking for short-term foster homes for dogs from three days to two weeks. Adoption prices are discounted to $30 for kittens and all adult animals are available by donation.
