SALT LAKE CITY — Local social media influencers JT and Brooklyn Laybourne helped raise over $50,000, which will be donated to Primary Children’s Hospital in honor of a young Utah girl.
The donation easily surpassed the previous record of $27,000 for the highest sold tree at the festival in its 51 years.
The money was used to bid for the “A Christmas for Jocelyn” tree, which was donated by hospital volunteers in honor of 3-year-old Jocelyn Ducharme.
— -- Beachgoers in Lubec, Maine, near the Canadian border, tried to save a 30-foot-long basking shark that recently washed ashore, according to a video showing the desperate rescue attempt.
Onlooker Mark Olsen recorded the video Wednesday morning, when more than a dozen people spent several hours pouring buckets of ocean water into the large shark's gills and onto its skin.
The 30-foot-long shark can be seen immobile, lying on its side with a bloodied fin in the video.

WASHINGTON — U.S. military officials and analysts have warned that China and Russia are building an arsenal of weapons designed to interfere with space-based capabilities of the United States.
The United States meanwhile is building its own capabilities to counter enemies’ space assets. Most of those systems are classified but the Space Force has made public its plans to deploy advanced electronic jammers to disrupt enemies’ satellite communications signals.
